This Goriska Brda winery is in the top 100 in the world – according to the Wine & Spirits Magazine and a MUST visit!
We arrived in the afternoon after a glorious drive through the Goriska Brda region, Uros had organised that we stay overnight at the Kabaj winery and kitchen. Kabaj is a family run winery in the heart of Goriska Brda region. The winemaker Jean Michel Morel came from France and married his wife Katja Kabaj whose family had been in this region for generations. They offered an extremely personal experience from the moment we arrived. Katja showed us to our rooms, then we had a relaxing hour on the terrace where we simple sat and took in the incredible views overlooking the vineyards.
Dining at Kabaj was divine, each of the 5-course degustation meals are paired with Kabaj’s incredible selection of white wines. Katja also offered a wonderful bottle of red wine with the main course and no request was too difficult. One of our guests was a vegetarian and they were able to change the menu to suit without delay, and the food produced was exquisite.
The Kabaj family are famous for their Amfora wine which is stored in huge clay barrels, this is a tradition that stems back in history for 8 thousand years, originating from Georgia.
